She was then seen ringing the doorbell, knocking on the door, and then running back to her auto and driving off and leaving the child behind.

It happened about 8 p.m. Wednesday night in Spring, Texas.

According to the sheriff's office, authorities received a 911 call from someone who said she went to answer a knock at her door and found a child standing there alone. The mother said she was in the hospital on Wednesday and had a friend drop the boy off.

The department had written: "The suspect is observed running toward the front door of the residence while lifting the child in the air by one arm".

It is too early in the investigation to know if the mom will face charges, Spencer said, but he emphasized that she turned her child over to someone who she believed was a responsible adult. "It was very alarming and very disturbing and my heart was hurting for that child".

Afterwards, the boy was taken into protective custody but within several hours, tips from the public identified him.

The entire incident took 23 seconds, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office stated on Facebook.

Deputies said the boy appears to be uninjured and in good health.

The sheriff's office posted an update Thursday morning saying that the boy's father has been located.

At this point the identity of the suspect and the child are unknown. Then, leaving the child and the bags behind, she runs away.

Neither the father nor the woman in the video has been named. The child's father lives nearby. She left before anyone came to the door. The child is now in the care of Child Protective Services as authorities try to find his family.

The boy's father confirmed the child in the video is named Prince Simmons, ABC7 reported.

Police said that when the boy never showed, the dad assumed that the boy's mother had changed her plans, and he ended up leaving his home for the evening.
