Palace have announced Prince Harry and Meghan are expecting a baby in 2019.

The news comes as the pair touch down in Australia ahead of their first tour as a married couple.

Britain's Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, meet an echidna held by Dr Michelle Shaw, left, during a visit to Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia, Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018.

Royal couple Harry and Meghan are expected to touch down in Sydney in a low-key arrival with the first of their 76 engagements across Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand to begin tomorrow.

Kensington Palace took to Twitter to declare: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby".

The royal couple were driven from the airport to Admiralty House, the official Sydney residence of Governor General Peter Cosgrove, who represents Australia's head of state, Queen Elizabeth II, Harry's grandmother.

Princess Charlotte also has a regal name, and Prince Louis, although not a traditional Windsor name, was a poignant choice for its connection to the Prince of Wales's much-loved great-uncle Earl Mountbatten.

But the baby will not be a prince or a princess unless the Queen steps in to issue a Letters Patent ahead of the birth.

Royal fans already suspected the duchess was pregnant after she wore a suspiciously wide-fitting Givenchy coat to Princess Eugenie's royal wedding on Friday.

Meghan's every smile, step and wave has been scrutinised by royalty watchers curious to see how the mixed-race American actress will perform in her new role. Her father is Thomas Markle, as is her half brother.

Meghan, 37, made her name in acting as savvy para-legal Rachel Zane in the USA television legal drama "Suits".

"I hope the weather holds up because it will be a wonderful experience for everybody, and what better place to be able to welcome them", Berejiklian told Network Nine television.

"This attractive woman just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life, I fell into her life", he said when their engagement was announced last November.
