‘Embarrassing’: Yanks routed by Red Sox 16-1, trail ALDS 2-1

The Yankees immediately challenged and, with a sellout crowd standing and hoping, the out call was upheld after a 63-second review.

The New York Yankees evened their series against the rival Boston Red Sox two nights ago with a road victory. Boston acquired him from Tampa Bay in July and the hard-throwing righty compiled a 1.93 ERA in four starts against NY this season - three with the Red Sox.

In the seventh inning, with the Red Sox still up 10-1, Benintendi went ahead 3-0 against Jonathan Holder, then swung at a fastball. Rick Porcello is scheduled to pitch against NY lefty CC Sabathia.

Despite the minor blip in the radar, Severino will look to build off his solid, yet shortened Wild Card start - when he tossed four innings of shutout ball while striking out seven and allowing two hits.

And the Red Sox knew it. It's possible that Cora didn't make a single mistake this series. Luke Voit walked on four pitches, and Kimbrel hit Neil Walker on a leg with his next pitch, forcing in a run.

The game fell apart quickly, too. As with the Yankees, Houston hosted the Red Sox for a four-game series at Minute Maid Park, and then visited Fenway Park for a three-game set. Like I always say, I care about my arm and being healthy. Darling said he read Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild's lips as he said "7:40" - the game's start time - to his starting pitcher. NY set a major league record this year for most home runs in a season, but didn't go deep in the two games at Yankee Stadium.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said after Game 4 that Judge's move hadn't affected him, though it might have resonated with his players.

The over is 8-1 in the last nine Yankees games overall.

A Cy Young candidate during the first half of the 2018 season, Severino was 10-2 with a 2.74 ERA in 15 starts prior to the Midsummer Classic.

Brock Holt had one thing in mind: He was swinging for the fences.

Sabathia, a 38-year-old lefty who led the Yankees to their last World Series title in 2009, had been the slide-ender of New York's pitching staff with a 14-1 record following losses in the previous two regular seasons.

In a 20-pitch first inning, CC Sabathia found a way to leave the bases loaded after a hard single, an unlucky infield single and walk.

He got five good innings out of Rick Porcello, who pitched the eighth inning in Game 1. Steve Pearce sliced a cutter into right-centre to put runners at the corners and Martinez hit a third-inning sacrifice fly for second straight night, giving him six RBIs in the series. Sabathia's night ended after that; of the 59 pitches he threw, 35 were strikes.

NY trailed 10-0 in the fourth when Luke Voit hit a comebacker off the bare hand of Eovaldi, and Hernandez signalled Voit beat the throw from second baseman Brock Holt for an infield hit. Benintendi's stolen base was in something of a gray area.
