Some of us experienced nose bleeding & headache: Darshak Hathi, passenger onboard Mumbai-Jaipur Jet Airways flight which was turned back to Mumbai due to a loss in cabin pressure, tweeted passenger.

Lalit Gupta, a senior official of DGCA, told the Hindustan Times newspaper that the crew had forgotten to press a switch that maintained cabin pressure.

A statement from Jet Airways said Flight 9W697, with 166 passengers and five crew members aboard, had a "loss in cabin pressure" but landed safely in Mumbai.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting an enquiry into the incident, the statement said.

Alternative flight arrangements were made for the travellers, the company said. This resulted in the oxygen masks dropping.

Because of this, aircraft are pressurised to simulate a lower altitude inside the cabin.

After the flight returned, they were immediately deboarded and rushed to the terminal building and administered first-aid by a team of doctors.

Videos tweeted by passengers aboard the plane showed oxygen masks deployed inside the aircraft.

Five of the passengers were diagnosed with "mild conductive deafness" which is caused due to a change in air pressure. According to DNA sources, 30 passengers had nose bleeding. "Jet Airways regrets the inconvenience caused to its guests", it added. "I told my co-passengers that I am bleeding and waved to the air hostess, but she told me to remain seated and that all is normal", Kala said.

In January, two Jet Airways pilots were grounded for getting into a brawl and storming out of the cockpit briefly during a New Year's Day flight from London to Mumbai.

Another passenger said: "There were elderly persons on board".

He claimed that after take-off the air-conditioning malfunctioned after which the air pressure system malfunctioned and oxygen masks dropped down.

As per initial information, out of total 166 passengers, some even complained of headache and oxygen masks were put in use mid-air. Additionally, a few passengers have been taken to the hospital for check-up.
