The PlayStation Classic comes with two controllers out of the box, which are identical in design (aside from their USB connectors) to the original PlayStation Controller.

As well as featuring numerous original games players will have two controllers based on the original pre-DualShock model.

Speaking of preloaded games, we do know five of the 20 titles, including Final Fantasy VII, TEKKEN 3, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, Jumping Flash! Other than being absolutely flawless for filling those Christmas stockings, 3 December also mirrors the launch day of the PlayStation in Japan some 24 years ago.

If Nintendo has proven anything over the last couple of years, it's that miniature versions of old-school consoles are in high demand.

While nostalgic gamers will probably be very excited by the PlayStation Classic, Sony has made a couple of faux pas with it.

The PlayStation Classic is about 45% smaller than the original PlayStation according to PlayStation Blog. The PlayStation Classic can now be preordered from GameStop and Best Buy, though more retailers may follow in the future. They followed it up with a mini SNEs, but we've also seen a mini Mega drives, tiny Neo Geos and now, a PlayStation classic.

The new retro console is a tribute to the original PlayStation. Also, the PlayStation Classic will, bafflingly, not be sold with an AC adaptor.

It's clear Sony is taking a page out of Nintendo's playbook with this announcement. Like the Nintendo classics, this system is intended for folks who have fond memories of PlayStation but who may not game on a regular basis. Regrettably, the packaging won't include a power plug adapter which is required for the device to function.

Sony says they'll be announcing more details about the included games in the coming months.
