With Tropical Storm Gordon doing no damage to refinery operations in the Gulf, on Wednesday afternoon, AAA reported that the storm did not impact gas prices in the Sunshine State.

"The preparation, coordination and cooperation by citizens during this storm greatly minimized the impact across our state", Gov. Kay Ivey of Alabama said Wednesday, sounding much like Gov. Phil Bryant of MS, who said that his state's coast was "relatively unscathed".

Tropical Storm Gordon never became a hurricane but it was deadly all the same, killing a child by blowing a tree onto a mobile home as it made landfall late Tuesday just west of the Alabama-Mississippi border.

Michael Barradas told The Pensacola News Journal he heard the loud crack and ran out of his mobile home and yelled, "Is everyone OK?'" He says the mother said, "No my baby's in there". Beachgoers in the area were being warned Wednesday that it's too early to return to the water; unsafe rip currents prompted red-flag warnings, meaning it's illegal to enter the Gulf of Mexico. It knocked out power to at least 27,000 utility customers in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.

The International Space Station got a good look on the storm as it bore down on the Gulf Coast on Tuesday.

Driftwood and other debris made for hazardous driving early Wednesday on the causeway to Dauphin Island, Alabama, which was partly flooded by seawater overnight, leaving people to drive over sand and around lawn furniture on the main road.

Mayors of barrier islands in the storm's path had warned that their communities might get cut off from the mainland. Crews were already restoring electricity early Wednesday.

Locally, a day of rain and storms from the tropical storm passed in the Golden Triangle without any significant damage. It wasn't almost as bad as when Nate, the last hurricane to strike the USA, came ashore last October in nearby Biloxi, Mississippi.

"I just hope I don't have to throw out everything in my refrigerator when I get home", he said.

Forty-eight production platforms in offshore production area remained evacuated on Wednesday, six fewer than on Tuesday.

New Orleans, which had braced for severe flooding, was unscathed.

"The service states that rainfall, will be possibly heavy at times, but the "... potential for any severe storms appears low at this time", in its Monday evening forecast. 2-3 inches of rain is likely over the Tri-State with heavier amounts in our far northern counties.
