Aretha Franklin fans gather at public viewing

Fans stop at the gold-plated casket for a final farewell.

On Wednesday, the late Queen of Soul was dressed in a powder blue dress and matching shoes in a bronze casket, a change from the red suit and crimson pumps she wore in a gold-plated casket on Tuesday. Detroit's Swanson Funeral Home owns the two-door LaSalle, buying it the year the funeral home began.

"She loved Delta and its ideals ... she looked for the best in others".

According to E!Online, Franklin's family invited Grande to take part after seeing her moving tribute on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon.

"She'd let us in the door, you know-she knew my father as O'Neil, not Mr. Swanson-she invited us in, and we all sat together and ate fried chicken", funeral director O'Neil Swanson II said.

Indoor and outdoor playlists:"Be aware that throughout the day, Aretha's upbeat music will play outside [the Wright Museum], but gospel music will play inside, per museum staff and family wishes", says a city government tweet.

"I tend to be a very organized person", Owens said. And I did (laughter). "I just wanted to stand there".

For those outside of her hometown who want to pay their respects to Franklin, they will be able to watch it all on several U.S. television networks.

"I think it's going to be a time of sadness, a time of joy, a time of laughter, there's going to be some dancing", he told AFP.

"There are some challenges in hosting an event for an global jewel of a performer like Aretha Franklin", Hamilton said.

"A People's Tribute to the Queen" will feature dozens of performers paying tribute to the Queen of Soul. Denise Barrett-Hubbard came with a busload from Toronto, Canada. The sorority is among the cultural institutions she loved, including the black church and historically black colleges.
