John McCain requested that former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush deliver eulogies at his funeral, CBS News has confirmed.

"Senator John Sidney McCain III died at 4:28 p.m. on August 25, 2018".

Cindy McCain, the senator's wife of 38 years, expressed her grief on Twitter. "At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years", the statement said.

In May, after a White House aide mocked John McCain, who had cancer, by reportedly saying, "It doesn't matter, he's dying anyways", Meghan McCain snapped back.

The veteran, a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, spent five and a half years as a prisoner of war after his navy plane was shot down.

"First elected to Congress during the Reagan Revolution, he championed the strong national defense that he knew would help ensure the survival of freedom and liberty across the globe".

"My father is gone, and I miss him as only an adoring daughter can", McCain concluded.

Meghan McCain said Saturday that she and her family will continue to live out her father's legacy. "May he rest in peace". She defended him on her show, in interviews and on Twitter as President Donald Trump and his allies hurled insults at the senator over differing political views. "But in this loss, and in this sorrow, I take comfort in this: John McCain, hero of the republic and to his little girl, wakes today to something more glorious than anything on this earth".

"Some lives are so vivid, it is hard to imagine them ended. And I've lost one of my dearest friends and mentor". "Laura and I send our heartfelt sympathies to Cindy and the entire McCain family, and our thanks to God for the life of John McCain".
