In an effort to explain why the president hasn't sat for an interview with investigators in special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE's Russian Federation probe, Giuliani said he doesn't want Trump to be "trapped into perjury".

"Truth is truth", Todd told Giuliani in the interview.

Email correspondence between Trump, Jr. and Rob Goldstone, a publicist who helped to arrange the meeting, showed that the content that was to be shared was "very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump" and "would be very useful to your father".

John Oliver opened his show with Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani's astonishing assertion on Meet the Press on Sunday, that "truth isn't truth".

Trump at the time seemed to be responding to stories from CNN and the Washington Post that cited several anonymous sources close to the president who said his concerns over Trump Jr. have pushed him to issue more critical public statements attacking U.S. intelligence and the media.

The interviewer put his hand on his forehead and said: "This is going to become a bad meme!".

"The meeting was originally for the goal of getting information about Clinton", the president's lawyer said.

When talking about evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian agents, Guiliani complained that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was dragging out his investigation. "And why does the White House let him keep going on TV?"

The New York Times said it stands by its story.

The exchange came as Todd pressed Giuliani on why he believed that Trump should not allow himself to be interviewed under oath by Russian Federation investigation Special Counsel Robert Mueller. "We have plenty of credibility", Giuliani quipped.

Trump has said he is willing to speak with Mueller's team, but his legal team has expressed opposition to that possibility because they believe the special counsel's investigators could take what Trump says, if it differs from what others have laid out, as a lie. White House counselor Kellyanne Conway famously referred to it as "alternative facts". Truth isn't truth. Donald Trump says, "I didn't talk about Flynn with Comey".

Giuliani has been speaking about Comey in the news lately. He ultimately cooperated with prosecutors and helped bring down the Nixon presidency in 1974, though he served a prison term for obstruction of justice. Fate is never kind to bunglers and/or botchers!

He added Sunday in response to Trump's tweets that he doubts the president has "ANY IDEA what McGahn has told Mueller".

"He fired Comey because Comey would not, among other things, say that he wasn't a target of the investigation", Giuliani told Fox News' Sean Hannity.

"We get very nervous that they're trying to trap him into perjury, which is not supposed to be what they're doing", he said on Sunday Morning Futures.
