MUELLER'S EXCUSES: The Special Counsel FILES A COMPLAINT Against Manafort Judge

Andres said his side has focused sharply on the accusations they need to prove. Manafort's lawyers have not yet indicated whether they plan to call witnesses as part of his defense. Manafort's lawyers on Wednesday tried to further malign Gates as a witness by suggesting Gates lied about the number of extramarital affairs he's had.

In another email, Manafort told Dr. K's law firm to make five wire transfers to pay for thousands of dollars worth of clothing from Alan Couture.

Gates, who had been on stand for more than seven hours by conclusion of Tuesday's testimony, is anticipated to be on stand for an additional hour more of cross-examination, according to Manafort's attorneys.

"The Ukrainians", Gates said, adding a layer to his statement Tuesday that he had stolen "Mr. Manafort's money".

Manafort's defense team says it was actually Gates who committed the financial crimes, without Manafort knowing, and Manafort's lawyers also have sought to exploit the guilty plea that Gates has accepted after he was indicted on related charges.

Prosecutors didn't specify the nature of the information, but one bench conference came after Manafort's defense team attempted to question Gates about whether he had discussed his work on the Trump campaign with Mueller's team.

When the jury is dismissed to deliberate, they will decide whether it was Manafort, Gates or both.

Paul Manafort lied about the status of his two properties in NY in order to fraudulently obtain a $3.4 million loan, according to testimony Thursday.

She said even though she worked with Gates a lot, it was clear to her that Manafort "knew what was going on" in most instances.

Magionos testified that she reviewed 31 accounts tied to Manafort in Cyprus, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the United Kingdom, and Manafort was listed as the beneficial owner on at least some of them.

The Reagan appointee has grumbled incessantly about prosecutors' pace in presenting evidence and questioning its witnesses - even though Mueller's team expects to rest its case roughly a week and a half ahead of schedule.

Judge T.S. Ellis III has clashed with prosecutors throughout Paul Manafort's trial. "I made a mistake".

He told the jury that Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman, loaned himself money between two Cypriot accounts because "he was trying to decrease his taxable income".

Neither man was charged in connection with their Trump campaign work, but the trial has nonetheless been a distraction for a president who insists Manafort was treated shabbily and who continues to publicly fume about Mueller's investigation into potential ties between his associates and the Kremlin.

Gates, who embezzled hundreds of thousands - possibly millions - of dollars from his boss over a decade, went behind his back to cook numbers and hide his income for him, they have argued. After a back-and-forth discussion about how much income should be reclassified as a loan to aid Manafort, they settled on $900,000, she testified.

On Thursday, a series of bank employees told jurors about discrepancies and outright falsehoods contained on Manafort's applications for millions of dollars in loans.

Ellis told the jury Thursday that he was "probably wrong" in his belief Wednesday that he had told prosecutors none of their witnesses would be allowed to observe the trial.

"Put aside any criticism", Ellis said at the trial proceedings Thursday morning.

Gates, 46, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and is cooperating with the government as it prosecutes Manafort for allegedly evading U.S. taxes on tens of millions of dollars earned from political consulting work they did together in Ukraine from 2006 to 2014. "I thought he was needlessly evasive and argumentative", said Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. Attorney in MI who has been watching the trial and said she observed jurors reacting with negative body language as he testified.
