The Orange County coroner's office on Monday identified the victims as 53-year-old Scott Shepherd and 42-year-old Lara Shepherd of Diablo, California; 62-year-old Floria Hakimi of Danville, California; 32-year-old Navid Hakimi of Los Angeles; and 29-year-old Nasim Ghanadan of Alamo, California.

Five people were killed on Sunday after a small aircraft crashed near the South Coast Plaza shopping center in the US state of California, authorities said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will each investigate.

Authorities said the Cessna 414 aircraft-registered to a San Francisco real estate firm-went down at 12:28 p.m. on Sunday at the parking lot of a Staples store in the 3900 block of Bristol Street, about two miles away from its destination, John Wayne Airport. Scott Shepherd was the pilot. Social media posts suggest they were mother and son. The 4 passengers worked for a real estate company in San Francisco and were presumably on a business trip. Authorities have no other information about the flight at this time, Bommarito said. "You just felt the ground move", she said.

Fire crews remained on the scene to clean up the spilled fuel. We looked up and we just saw a plane fall.

All of the victims were declared dead at the scene, according to O.C. Fire Authority.

The pilot had declared an emergency before the incident, and national transportation authorities are now investigating the cause of the crash.Fire authorities were called at 12:28 local time (19:28 GMT) after the small plane hit a parked red vehicle, while its owner was in a shop.
