Paul Pogba holds secret talks with Barcelona chief

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has suggested that Paul Pogba will stay put at Old Trafford this season amid reported interest from elsewhere.

Pogba has reportedly endured a falling out with United manager Jose Mourinho after he refused to cut his holiday short to return to pre-season training early, fuelling rumours that the 25-year-old could be set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The interview in particular the report points to is an interview with ESPN he did two weeks ago wherein Mourinho wonders why Pogba's performances in the World Cup for France were far more impressive than those with Manchester United.

Instead of praising Pogba's performances, Mourinho urged him to "understand" why he had done so well in Russian Federation and appeared to suggest the player lacked the same focus for his club.

It has been claimed that Pogba's agent Mino Raiola has already agreed the outline of personal terms on a contract with Barcelona and a €110m deal could be done.

However, they now face an even bigger issue with virtually no time to bring in a replacement: retaining the services of star midfielder Paul Pogba. Mourinho appeared to question Pogba's effort and heart while playing for his club, saying, "I don't think it's about us getting the best out of him [at Manchester United], it's about him giving the best he has to give".

"I think the World Cup is the ideal habitat for a player like him to give the best. Why?"

"The players are in a closed camp, isolated from the external world, from commercial compromises, and every possible influence".

Pogba's midfield partner Nemanja Matic is also sidelined following abdominal surgery in America.

Mourinho dropped Pogba from his starting XI midway through last season amid concerns over his tactical discipline, while the Frenchman argued with his manager over tactics.
