Mendocino Complex Fire now largest in California history

The announcement came after Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) confirmed one of its employees died while trying to restore electrical service in Shasta County.

The trio were arrested on suspicion of interfering with firefighters and not having authorization to be in an evacuation zone. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities or major injuries on this fire, to firefighters or civilians.

At least three states have mobilized National Guard troops to help, and five military aircraft are assisting.

He went on to say that federal authorities have done a poor job of implementing methods to reduce the number of deadly fires, and that this has been devastating for America's wildlands.

The Ranch and River fires that make up the Mendocino Complex wildfire had grown to 283,800 acres by Monday evening, Cal Fire said in their latest update.

The Carr Fire, which incinerated 1,067 homes, started with sparks from the steel wheel of a towed-trailer's flat tire, Department of Agriculture and Fire Prevention officials said.

The fire has now spread to more than 163,000 acres and is only 45 percent contained, according to the department. The southern perimeter of the River Fire has been contained and controlled for several days.

Over the weekend, the White House approved a disaster declaration for Shasta County, allowing affected residents from the Carr Fire to apply for federal disaster assistance such as temporary housing, home repairs and other programs.

As of Monday, the Mendocino Complex Fire shows little sign of slowing down.

Another blaze that ignited last week in the Sierra Nevada has damaged a historic Northern California resort in the Stanislaus National Forest.
