Nobody Is Terraforming Mars Anytime Soon, NASA Says

He said due to opposition planet Mars, Earth and Sun were opposite to each other in a straight line from our perspective on earth. According to NASA, the red planet will be 57.6 million kilometres from Earth and will hit its highest point at about midnight.

'Not quite as bright as Venus, but still because of the reddish, orange-ish-red colour, you really can't miss it in the sky'.

Mars will be closer to Earth this month.

But, when and where can I see it?

The Mars will be closer to the Earth the next in 2020. With Earth exactly in between of the outer planet and the sun, humans will be able to enjoy the best view of a fully lit planet. Planet Mars can be spotted in the sky till end of year with more appreciable brightness till end of November 2018. With Mars being further away from the Sun, researchers estimate a CO2pressure similar to Earth's total atmospheric pressure is needed to raise temperatures enough to allow for stable liquid water. The minimum distance from the Earth to Mars is about 33.9 million miles and does not happen very often.

If you have a telescope at home you should get a good view of the planet but Mars will be just as easily visible to the naked eye.

After the presentation, which will be held in the Eos Theater at Flandrau, the public is invited to look through several telescopes from 9 p.m.to 2 a.m. In 2003, Mars made its closest approach to Earth-34.6 million miles-in almost 60,000 years.

For instance, back in early 2017 researchers examined data that was collected from the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) program and noted then also that there wasn't enough Carbon dioxide in the red planet's atmosphere.

The Red Planet went into opposition last Friday, which means Mars and the were on exact opposite sides of Earth.

The red planet is making its closest approach to Earth in 15 years on Tuesday.

Observatories across the U.S. are hosting Mars-viewing events right now.

But just in case you miss Mars Close Approach this year, the next one is scheduled to take place on October 6, 2020.

"Unfortunately we're weather-dependent, so we're hoping the sky is clear that night, even though we usually want the rain", Reed said. According to estimates of NASA, similar phenomena will not take place again till the year 2287. At nightfall Jupiter is shining brightly in the south-southwestern sky, and Saturn is just off to the lower left in the low south-southeast.
