Lukaku to return early to help depleted Man United, Mourinho says

Anthony Martial says he will join Manchester United training on Thursday, after risking discipline by failing to return following the birth of his second child.

While it was previously reported the Brazilian would not be part of the first-team squad this season, his display in the 2-1 defeat has given manager Julen Lopetegui some food for thought. "He is an honest man, always ready to give everything for the team".

For now, Mourinho can only focus on trying to get the players ready for the start of the season.

Martial has been linked with a move away due to the evident tension between him and Mourinho, but no serious bids have come in for the player, who will not be let go on the cheap.

"More or less I know (my best team)", the United boss told beIN SPORTS.

"Let's look at it from a positive side and wait for [Victor] Lindelof, Rashford, Lukaku and Jones, which are going to be four important players for us, not prepared but they will be back and that's the spirit we need".

Jose Mourinho wants two more signings before the transfer deadline - but is only confident of getting one.

'I feel really sorry we couldn't give them [the fans] more, because we didn't have more players to bring, ' he said.

They open the 2018/19 Premier League season with a home clash against Leicester City on August 10. Now we have Real Madrid and after that we have Bayern Munich and that is our start.

Mourinho is still without a number of players, who reached the latter stages in Russian Federation, and made clear his preference that they cut their breaks early to aid preparations for the season opener against Leicester on August 10.
