Henrikh Mkhitaryan advises Aaron Ramsey over Gunners contract saga

Despite the defeat on penalties to Atletico Madrid in Singapore on Thursday Mkhitaryan is looking forward to the forthcoming season.

But it was Smith-Rowe who stole the show with his 47th-minute equaliser after Luciano Vietto had given the La Liga side the lead with a stooping header from an Angel Correa cut-back four minutes before half-time.

But Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Joseph Willock and Edward Nketiah were all denied by Adan as Atleti won 3-1 on penalties.

"Historically, Arsenal have worked with young players to give them the chance to work with the first team, for them to show their quality in each match".

However, Arsenal boss Unai Emery will be pleased with the performance of Smith-Rowe, with fellow youngsters Guendouzi and Reiss Nelson also impressing.

Former Real Madrid and Real Betis keeper Adan is expected to understudy first choice Jan Oblak, with Simeone telling the postgame news conference at Singapore's National Stadium that the 31-year-old was settling in very well at his new club.

"It's more for the player that he has the feeling that his situation is resolved and he can purely concentrate on the game".

The Czech shot-stopper, who is in a similar situation with one year remaining on his own contract, was asked about Ramsey's prospects and said: "That's a private matter for the club and the player". "Aaron is an important player for us". This goal is very good for him and the team. If they work hard, prepare well, they can take these opportunities.

"Today I am very happy with his work on the pitch, but not only today", Emery said of Smith Rowe after the International Champions Cup game.

On Wednesday, he said Emery had convinced Arsenal's young guns that they can shine, and yesterday it seemed he took that to heart.
