It said Israel would "continue to operate against" any breach of a 1974 United Nations armistice deal that established buffer zones on the Golan.

Reuters said Israel previously rejected a Russian proposal to keep Iranian forces about 80 kilometers from the frontier.

Israel and Syria fought their last war 45 years ago and later agreed to separate their forces either side of a 50-mile-long buffer zone - a boundary that had remained Israel's quietest since.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Jerusalem on Monday to discuss the Syrian conflict. However, Israel is demanding that Iranian troops fully withdraw.

Danon says Israeli forces saw the plane "crossing the border. we tried to contact a few times, and there was no response".

Syria criticized this evacuation as a "criminal operation" carried out by "Israel and its tools".

The conflict was reportedly the first time Israel had directly targeted the Iranian military and the first time Syria and Israel had engaged one another in combat since the 1980s. He said it was unknown if the plane deliberately crossed into Israel nor what happened to its pilot. "They don't need to be close to us to harm us".

Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus said the plane was Syrian, not Russian. Today, warnings were issued through various "channels" as a heightened amount of aerial activity took place just over the boundary.

On Syrian state media, the attack was framed as an assault on the country's sovereignty.

Aviation and artillery are rendering support to the Syrian government troops and delivering strikes against terrorists' positions. The Syrian army is advancing into this pocket to try to bring the whole of southwest Syria back under its control.

Israel and Syria have a border dispute in the Golan Heights and have squared off in aerial combat before, with Israel notably destroying much of Syria's anti-air batteries and losing one of its F-16s. In 1981, Israel annexed the area it occupied.
