The gay icon was speaking to Today's Kathie Lee Gifford ahead of the release of the ABBA musical film sequel. Here We Go Again will premiere at London's Hammersmith Apollo.

"Dot dot dot! That's what they did in the olden days", explains Sophie before she begins singing "Honey, Honey", at the start of the first Mamma Mia movie.

The number itself is staggering, but it's not hard to see how she earned it. Cher has been working diligently in the spotlight since her teens.

The two have a long history together; both have been in the film business for decades now, even co-starring in the 1983 thriller Silkwood alongside actor Kurt Russell, which Cher starred in early in her movie career.

The return opens the door to her learning about her mother's past, and the film bounces back and forth in time, detailing the love affairs and adventures that preceded the young Donna bringing up Sophia and running a guesthouse.

But as Cher told Entertainment Tonight, "I just thought it was cool". " sees Cher playing Ruby Sheridan, mother to Donna (Meryl Streep) and grandmother to Sophie (Amanda Seyfried)". This film reminded me weirdly in its staging of Kenneth Branagh's 90s film version of Much Ado About Nothing, with its golden southern European hues and beaming cast.

It was revealed in late 2017 that she would join the cast of Mamma Mia! Another commented: "Meryl and Cher officially broke the Internet".

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again lays all of its Abba love on us with platform heels, tongue-in-cheek humour and joy-infused musical performances choreographed to perfection by Anthony Van Laast.

"Finally after eight years there was a script that everyone agreed on so we said OK then, let's do it", he said.
