Southgate said the players were deeply disappointed, but that his young team could achieve great things in the years to come, with the European Championship just two years away.

We have beaten England in the group phase and we want to do that again.

Mrs May was unable to watch the game against Croatia, which saw England crash out of the competition, due to a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit but insisted everyone should be proud of what England achieved.

"There were no negotiations, I just accepted it because my life's dream was always to coach my national team", Dalic said of his appointment. I hope we will make the world happy.

Perisic provided a relentless threat to Gareth Southgate's team, with his powerful and purposeful runs down the left flank and at the heart of England's defence causing consistent problems throughout the latter stages of the match.

'They're on their way to being top players but they're not there yet but we can see we're progressing and really heading in the right direction'. It could have been so much more for this side however as the World Cup victor, either France or Croatia, will bag $38m for their success, whilst the runner-up will scoop a handy $28m.

Granted, he's played more minutes than anyone else because of going to extra time in three consecutive knockout games but 39.1 miles is still utterly incredible.

"They did not look like a side who were playing extra time for a third time in a row". "We were 20 minutes from a World Cup Final and then ten minutes from a shootout".

"I have this feeling there will be hundreds of millions of people rooting for us on Sunday", he said.

Southgate believes there is room for development in this emerging England team, who went into the tournament sitting joint-12th in the Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings.

"In the end Croatia were a little bit too good and had a little bit too much in the tank, but we can't be critical of what they've done, they were absolutely superb". That felt so good for us here in Russian Federation, and united us more and more, just like it did in our country. We'll be well prepared because this is a one in a lifetime opportunity.

In Belgium's only previous World Cup semi-final appearance they lost to Argentina and faced France in the third place play-off. We have high motivation to perform and the chance to win a medal at a World Cup, which only one other English team has done, so there's a lot of motivation for us.
