Investigators probe scene of Wonderboom plane crash for clues

Their injuries range from minor to critical.

Emergency services were called out to the scene just after 16:00 when the plane was found on fire in a field.

The Convair plane - built in 1954 - was due to soon be flown to the Aviodrome air museum, near the central Dutch city of Lelystad, after reportedly being renovated at the small Wonderboom airport in Pretoria.

Spokesperson Ernie McCarthy confirmed the incident and that Emer-G-Med paramedics were attending to the scene.

"We are not sure what happened at this stage", Rosella Passier, Aviodrome's marketing manager, told French news agency AFP.

Best Care ambulance services' Xander Loubser said reports indicated that the charter plane was carrying passengers on an global flight.

A plane crashed in Pretoria, South Africa, on Tuesday afternoon.

The plane was marked Martin's Air Charter, but no information was immediately available about the air company.

According to the Aviodrome's website, it cost €350,000 (US$410,000) to make the plane "flight ready" and buy parts for the planned trip to Europe.

Civil Aviation Authority investigators were at the scene and started the process of determining the cause of the accident.
