Super PACs ramp up Missouri ad buys MORE (R-Ohio) on Friday repeatedly denied claims that he knew of alleged sexual abuse taking place on the Ohio State University wrestling team while he served as assistant coach, while calling into question the timing of the allegations.

"I don't believe them at all - I believe him", Trump said of the claims against the conservative lawmaker, The Hill reported. For any teacher, protecting kids is the absolute first priority-and I say that as a former kindergarten teacher.

As ThinkProgress previously noted, Jordan has always been thought to be a top contender to replace House Speaker Paul Ryan, once Ryan steps down in November, and enjoys the full support of several high-profile members of Congress, as well as the president himself.

CNN says male members from 14 of the university's sports teams-among them baseball, fencing, football, swimming, and track-have levied allegations against Strauss per Ohio State.

"Congressman Jordan never saw any abuse, never heard about any abuse, and never had any abuse reported to him during his time as a coach at Ohio State", spokesman Ian Fury told Fox News. "All I know is, it's not true".

"I don't know why he's taking shots at me", DiSabato said of Finkes, other than the fact that Jim Jordan and his brother, Jeff, who is also a well-known wrestling coach, "are in the middle of a firestorm that we did not create". Yetts says it was far from the only discussion players had with Jordan, and that it was commonly known Strauss showered with players though he didn't work out.

President Donald Trump defended Jordan at a campaign rally in Montana on Thursday, saying he believed the Ohio Republican and did not believe the accusations. Baier focused in on this and asked Jordan whether he heard things in locker room conversations, even things that may have not seemed like abuse twenty years ago but do today.

Jordan's spokesman said the Republican congressman is now working with investigators to set up a meeting.

Jordan has said he only learned about the abuse allegations this spring, when former students began speaking out. In a video shared with NBC, former head wrestling coach Russ Hellickson said he confronted Strauss and told school officials.

The email address glitch appeared to clear up contradictory statements by Jordan's office and Porter Wright, the law firm leading Ohio State's investigation into Dr. Richard Strauss. "I believe him. Jim Jordan is one of the most outstanding people I've met since I've been in Washington".

"Jim Jordan is a world-caliber athlete who is very aggressive in his actions. he's a bulldog, let's be honest", DiSabato said.

"But to say that he had no knowledge of it, I would say that's kind of hurtful".
