In a tweet targeting recent calls from the Democratic Party to abolish ICE entirely, President Trump was quick to offer his support to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and to make it clear abolishment was not on the table according to Fox News.

"We came to the United States seeking help, and we never imagined that this could happen".

The Trump administration's crackdown on immigration has prompted some Democrats and activists on the left to call for ICE to be abolished. "I know people aren't sympathetic to deportation officers, but they have a rough time with this too and I think more so under this administration". And I think you should reimagine ICE under a new agency with a very different mission and take those two missions out.

He said he learned those agencies are feeling pressure from elected officials who must answer to their communities, including many people who don't agree with stepped-up enforcement by ICE.

"No matter what they do, we are here to stay", Sinclair said.

"I am pleased that ICE will continue to be led by an experienced and well-respected career law enforcement officer who will be a strong advocate for the agency's workforce", she added.

He has been the acting deputy commissioner at Customs and Border Protection, ICE's sister immigration law enforcement agency, where he's overseen initial construction of Mr. Trump's border wall.

"I am confident and hopeful that it will not last long and that it will not last forever, because of every single individual who's on this block today", the 28-year-old told attendees.

President Donald Trump ordered the separations halted, but the details on what is next are being worked out. Protesters have rallied across the U.S, demanding that the agency be abolished - calls that have been echoed by politicians.

When asked how she would replace ICE, she responded bluntly, "Nothing". This month, WikiLeaks published the identities and information of more than 9,000 supposed current and former ICE employees.

They gathered on the front lawn of a Border Patrol station in McAllen, Texas, near a detention center where migrant children were being held in cages, and on a street corner near Trump's golf resort at Bedminster, New Jersey, where the president is spending the weekend.

"On Thursday, Department of Homeland Security police stood shoulder-to-shoulder across the entryway to the grounds while other officers dismantled and removed the makeshift camp, protest signs and barriers of wooden crates".
