Real Madrid's Interest In Liverpool Target Nabil Fekir Hasn't Gone Beyond This

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has admitted to holding talks with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho with some fans speculating it has to do with a potential transfer.

Despite interest from European Champions Real Madrid, The Mirror states "The Frenchman still wants to move to Reds".

Liverpool believe they will beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Swis star Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool returned with a bid of 150 million euros this year but were again rebuffed by Madrid, who signed Asensio from Mallorca in December 2014 for just 3.9 million.

Fekir has been afforded just two cameo appearances at the World Cup so far, coming off the bench in both games for a total time of 30 minutes.

As noted by Anderson, it's been reported that Liverpool were close to getting a deal done for Fekir, although the move was scuppered due to concerns over a serious knee injury picked up earlier in his career. Liverpool are, therefore, keeping their options open in the transfer market, with Asensio certainly a viable target for them. The Liverpool boss has thus, been in the market for an attacking reinforcement who couldn't just be an option beyond the trio, but also to complement them in the starting lineup. Liverpool have not made an offer and have no intention on making one.

But Lyon announced recently that the deal had been called off with Fekir set to stay at the club for the foreseeable future. Liverpool's bid is a long way off the Spaniard's €700 million release clause in the contract that he signed past year.

The deal, for all intents and purposes, looks like a tough one for Liverpool to secure, although it will be interesting to see if they can persuade Real Madrid to sell Asensio.
