Speaking to reporters after he accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday in Santa Monica, Robertson spoke at length when asked about how his generation of players were engaged in social activism and if he is proud to see some of today's stars and the National Basketball Association try to better the community.

"The last four years have been like knocking on the door, knocking on the door". However, Harden and the Rockets would also fall to eventual champion Golden State in a grueling 7-game series in the Western Conference Finals.

Davis was also a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year - which was won by Utah Jazz forward Rudy Gobert - but the Pelicans forward was the only player to be named as a finalist for two of the major awards handed out Monday night.

The Houston Rockets star was voted the NBA's Most Valuable Player after twice being runner-up, beating out four-time victor LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Pelicans at the NBA Awards on Monday night.

Oladipo, 26, averaged a career-high 23.1 points with 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.4 steals to earn his first career All-Star selection, as well as a spot on the All-NBA third team and the All-Defensive first team.

We have a new member of the Defensive Player of the Year club. The 28-year-old finished second to Russell Westbrook last season.

"I want to thank the Clippers organization for giving me an opportunity to be myself", Williams said. Gordon won the award last season. Casey beat out Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens and Jazz coach Quin Snyder for the honor. He has since become coach of the Detroit Pistons.

Therefore, there's a lot riding on the MVP award every year. Harden was the driving force behind the historical season for the Rockets.

The guard averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, joining Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson as the only rookies to post those numbers in a season.
