Petaluma: A nine-year-old English bulldog was named the victor of the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Dogs in the competition flaunt their imperfections as they walk down a red carpet with their owners.

The dog's owner Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, will receive US$1500 for Zsa Zsa's win. Her mother saw her lovely picture on pet finder and HAD TO HAVE HER! Crowds cheered when Zsa Zsa was pronounced this year's ugliest. As she sat there with her name tag and "Big Girls Drool" tag, Zsa Zsa definitely captured the attention of many spectators and seemed calm and cool during the exposure.

Christy Gentry, the Sonoma-Marin Fair publicist, said in a statement: "The World's Ugliest Dog Contest is an iconic tradition of the Sonoma-Marin Fair".

She fought off stiff competition from Wild Thang - a Pekingese with a shit-ton of fur - and Rascal Deux, which looks like a cross between a bat and some Poundland hair extensions. She was almost blind from neglect when she was rescued in Sonoma County, California.

The contestants included a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund mutt, a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin and a Pekingese named Wild Thang.

Last year's World's Ugliest Dog prize went to a 3-year-old, 125-pound (57-kilo) Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha.

The competition is now in its 30th year. She picked up Zsa Zsa about four years ago as a rescue dog from Missouri puppy mill.

According to reports, the dogs are judged on more than just good-looks, with audience reaction, first impression and unusual attributes all being taken into consideration.
