Melania Trump made an unannounced visit to a Texas facility Thursday to get a first-hand look at some of the migrant children sent there by the US government after their families entered the country illegally.

Melania Trump was shown in photos wearing the hooded green khaki jacket designed by fashion chain Zara as she boarded a flight from Andrews Air Force Base to the border facility in McAllen, Texas.

"Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's communications director, said that there was no "hidden message" and shared the hashtag "#ItsJustAJacket".

Late-night hosts took aim at Melania Trump's controversial jacket worn as she visited detention centers on the US-Mexico border. "I DON'T REALLY CARE, DO U?" is President Trump, Stephen Miller, Anne Coulter and Laura Ingrham talking.

"Melania in her "I don't care jacket" just "happened" to show up unannounced to doctors, social workers & medical staff".

Melania Trump took a surprise trip to Texas to speak to children and officials at a shelter for migrant children.

And on Sunday, her spokesman said she hoped the crisis would be solved 'with heart, ' sparking widespread speculation that the First Lady disagreed with her husband's own policy. "A jacket that says, 'Womp, womp?" added Colbert, referring to a comment from Trump's former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who callously mocked an immigrant girl, 10, with Down syndrome who was separated from her mother at the border.

It's unclear who, exactly, first had the idea to say her coat's message was directed at the media.

Fast-fashion pioneer Zara has been caught up in a sartorial controversy involving first lady Melania Trump - with a garment last on sale two years ago. Wore it as if to give direct proof to the words on her back.

President Trump has signed an executive order that illegal immigrant families will no be separated, but confusion remains over what will happen to those already separated, and no plans have been put in place by the government.

Amnesty International declared it was "shook by the blatant lack of empathy" and offered to send the First Lady a "This is What a Human Rights Defender Looks Like" T-shirt to wear instead.

Mrs Trump changed into a pale yellow jacket before the plane landed in McAllen, Texas, for a visit to the Upbring New Hope Children's Centre, which houses 55 migrant children. "She thinks that it's important that children stay with their families".

"Ma'am, I know how you can help", he said.

Melania Trump's jacket raised eyebrows on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Just a week before, Trump's newest lawyer and spokesman, Rudy Giuliani, said that Melania believed Donald when he said he didn't have an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels.
