The queen and the new duchess travelled overnight on the royal train to Cheshire.

During today's visit, Meghan appeared slightly overwhelmed and the new royal looked panicked as she forgot protocol.

Queen Elizabeth II and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, second right, are welcomed by well-wishers after arriving by Royal Train at Runcorn Station, north west England, Thursday June 14, 2018. Following that, she will have addressed her as Ma'am when other people could hear and by the family's intimate address Mama when they couldn't. Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal expert, told Express that it is highly unlikely for the Queen to give up her throne while she is still alive.

The Duchess of Cambridge waited nearly a whole year after her wedding to Prince William before she was allowed on a solo outing with the Queen.

Markle embarked on her first joint engagement with the queen on Thursday wearing a cream dress by Givenchy. After Meghan heard the answer, she got in and the Queen followed.

The Duchess of Sussex has taken part in royal engagements since her wedding but this is arguably her most important yet - accompanying the Queen on a day of visits.

The new duchess and the Queen were greeted with a view of the new £1.86bn Mersey Gateway bridge, which was officially opened by the Queen. "It was a very, very important day for Meghan, and to be tutored firsthand by Her Majesty was a great honor for Meghan indeed". They looked like naughty teenagers giggling together at one point.

The duchess's outfit - a beige Givenchy dress with caped shoulders - may have not been the ideal choice, Ms James said.

'It may not have quite the same romantic images as when Queen Victoria rolled in majestic style from Windsor to Balmoral, insisting that the driver never exceeded 30 miles an hour, but there remains some of the glamour of bygone days'.

Ms James described the monarch as having young body language for a woman of 92.

"She walked up the aisle on her own without batting an eyelid". Meghan's background, former career and outspoken feminism make her an interesting and modern member of the archaic and outdated family.
