Mr. Trump will become the first sitting US president to meet with a North Korean leader when he sits down with Kim in Singapore.

Kim and his delegation arrived aboard an Air China 747, according to Singapore's Straits Times.

Given the incentives for both leaders to present the Singapore summit as a personal victory, the most likely outcome is that they stick to the niceties.

Kim is scheduled to begin a summit Tuesday with President Trump.

In contrast, Trump reached the White House via a career in property development and reality television, followed by an unprecedentedly populist presidential campaign that upended the United States political establishment.

North Korea's Kim Jong Un meets Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Sunday. "And, for me, the best-case scenario would be, at this point, for President Trump to step back from the process and hand it over to the professional diplomats and negotiators to work out these details". "[North Korea's] media is old school", explained North Korea expert and journalist Jean Lee in a tweet.

"Maybe we'll start with the White House, what do you think?" he said when asked if Kim would be invited to Washington or his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

There is a flurry of speculation about what results might come from the summit.

"I think the North will denuclearise. because it knows it has no other alternatives", he said. I feel that Kim Jong Un wants to do something great for his people, and he has that opportunity.

Second, the content of the meeting must be holistic. But that could lead to a situation similar to previous failed agreements where North Korea dragged out its end of the deal for years before reneging.

Trump and Kim touched down on a sweltering early summer day in Singapore, the city-state founded in the early 19th Century as a British colony because of its position at the intersection of sea lanes between Europe and Asia.

She said Sung Kim, the USA ambassador to the Philippines, who has taken the lead on policy negotiations with the North, was set to hold a working group with a North Korean delegation at 10 a.m. Monday.

Third, a peace treaty ending the Korean War must be initiated.

North Korea's Kim landed Singapore's Changi Airport earlier on Sunday, in his longest trip overseas as head of state. To this day, and technically speaking, Washington and Pyongyang are still at war.

That may be even more important to Trump in the wake of the disastrous G-7 summit. In order to prevent the collapse of the talks and subsequently, North Korea's return to the mainstream after decades of worldwide isolation, advisors (from Washington and Pyongyang) in the meeting must do what they can to steer the discussion in a positive direction. Trump and Kim lookalikes held a summit of their own at a local shopping mall, while one bistro is offering a libation known as the Trump-Kim "Bromance:" Beer, tequila, diet Coke and the Korean distilled rice liquor known as soju. Keep in mind, these photographs and video clips depicting smiles, hugs, handshakes, pointing randomly in the same direction and so on will travel the world and say a lot more than any of the remarks offered by either leader.

The initial goal was the "complete denuclearisation" of the North. What it should be used for instead is as a starting point with a clearly articulated roadmap for continued dialogue.

Ahead of the meeting, Trump has dangled the carrot of a normalisation of diplomatic ties between the former foes and even a White House visit for Kim, which would confirm his arrival on the world stage.

Pompeo has disputed the notion that the president is moving the goalposts, telling reporters that Trump "has always understood that this was a process."
We will have seen each other. Fortunately, there are less than 24 hours to go before then.
