Marcelo: Ronaldo Isn't The Boss At Real Madrid

The widespread rumours about Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid are refusing to die down.

Do you think Neymar would be the flawless replacement for Ronaldo at Real?

They add that offering Ronaldo a contract extension isn't a priority for "Los Blancos" and the search has allegedly already begun to find his potential successor.

The president of Real Murcia says he was set to hire Guti as manager of the third-division club before Zinedine Zidane resigned, paving the way for the former Madrid midfielder to replace him. Neymar left Barcelona to escape from the shadow of Lionel Messi, so it seems unlikely that he would join Real unless given assurances that he would be top dog there as well.

Ronaldo himself has not spoken publicly about the situation since those comments in Kiev, apart from the following day's "see you next year" message to fans celebrating the Champions League success back in Madrid.

Led by Ronaldo as Portugal were sent off to the World Cup at a Lisbon reception held by president Marcelo Rebelo De Sousa Wednesday, the five-time Ballon d'Or victor said: "What I can guarantee is a great ambition of all of us players and technical team".

The 26-year-old is perhaps the only player available to Real Madrid who would be capable of taking the limelight away from the goal machine or potentially commanding a higher salary.

Ronaldo became one of the best players in the world during a six-year spell at Old Trafford before sealing a then world-record move to Madrid in the summer of 2009.

Were the Portuguese to leave this summer, PSG and Manchester United would be seen as the immediate favourites.

With Ronaldo entering the twilight of his career a swansong back in the Premier League at the club where he made his name appeals to him.
