Rashford unleashed a dipping drive from the right in the 13th minute, that flew past Keylor Navas.

Danny Welbeck added a second for England after the break with a diving header from a Dele Alli cross.

"It means a lot to just be selected but going there and hopefully playing a major part is my main aim".

"We've done stuff at Canalside pre-match as well as when the players come off the bus, particularly the executioner's drumroll when the opposition team arrive and get off their coach!"

19-year-old full-back Alexander-Arnold made 33 appearances for Liverpool this season including a starting berth in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last month.

Rashford scored with a lovely long-range shot to set England on their way to their second victory this week as they prepare for the Group G clash with Tunisia in Volgograd on June 18.

'I feel in good physical form leading up to the tournament. England outpossessed Nigeria 59-41, with each team having 12 shots, four on target.

It was just reward for a fine first-half performance but England lost some of their rhythm after the break, as Southgate made a number of changes, including handing goalkeeper Nick Pope his first taste of global football.

"Anything is possible. We have to go with the highest expectations".

The link-up play between Loftus-Cheek and Rashford on England's right-hand side, causing problems for Costa Rica's defence with the pair constantly fouled as they formed most of the attack - Loftus-Cheek was fouled more than any other player (five) and also completed 100% of his 34 passes.

The Three Lions imposed themselves in the early stages of what was their final warm-up match ahead of the FIFA World Cup, and looked threatening on the wings.

Costa Rica face tournament favourites Brazil as well as Serbia and Switzerland in Group E, and will need to show far more ambition once they get to Russian Federation if they are to replicate their heroics of four years ago.
