Arbaaz Khan booked under IPL betting scam

TOI reported on Thursday + that a Bollywood biggie was close to Jalan (41), whose betting activities are spread across India and overseas, notably Gulf countries such as the UAE; Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Arbaaz Khan, the brother of Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan, was summoned for investigations into the ongoing probe in the Indian Premier League matches (IPL) betting case, that was busted recently. According to police sources one Sonu Jalan a bookie was arrested a few days earlier and also confiscated a diary from him which had names of all his clients. While now media reports on the same are sketchy, it is learnt that Arbaaz has been summoned with the intention of him joining the probe into the betting racket.

India Today reported that Jalan is associated with many Bollywood celebrities and his interogation may unearth some big names related to cricket betting. The actor has been asked to record his statement. "Subsequently, there was another huge transaction between them". "He has been summoned to ascertain his role in the betting racket", a police officer said. Another man Kaskar was also arrested recently by the Thane police for his involvement in the IPL betting scam, said Police Inspector Rajkumar Kothmire as quoted by ET.

Despite repeated attempts by TOI to get his version, Arbaaz didn't return calls or respond to text messages.

The IPL has been dogged by gambling controversies since it started in 2008, and police say they have smashed a number of betting syndicates across India during this year´s season, which ended Saturday. "His network could involve almost 3,500 punters", said Sharma.

"Jalan had arranged a match-fixing meeting in Dubai", Sharma said.
