Trump tweets he 'never fired' Comey over Russian Federation, contradicting reports about memo

Prior to the report set to be unveiled in the days to come, the Inspector General released the findings in its review pertaining to ex-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, a frequent Trump target who was sacked in February by Attorney General Jeff Sessions hours before he was eligible for full pension benefits.

As a reminder, when he first announced the firing, Trump claimed it was on a recommendation from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein-whom he said in the Holt interview was respected by everyone, but, now that the investigation has progressed, regularly attacks and threatens to fire. A source close to the matter told ABC that in the memo McCabe described how Rosenstein allegedly told him Trump asked him to mention Russian Federation in his May 9 letter recommending Comey's firing.

"Look, my understanding at the time he did it was that he was concerned about the way that Mr. Comey had handled the Hillary Clinton investigation", Lee said, alluding to the White House's initial, transparently absurd rationale for the Comey firing - that he needed to go because he treated Hillary Clinton unfairly during the course of the FBI's investigation of her emails.

Comey's firing led to the appointment of Mueller as the Justice Department's special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election as well as possible ties between Trump's presidential campaign and Russia. In other words, his current lies are further evidence to support a possible charge of obstruction of justice.

Of course, it does matter why Trump fired the FBI director leading an investigation into his associates.

A batch of FBI records related to President Trump's father sought under the Freedom of Information Act was released October 30, while some FBI Clinton Foundation-related records were published on November 1, 2016.

"President Trump told us it was about Russia", Berman pointed out. Still, one consideration lingers: It takes an fantastic level of shamelessness to say something on national TV, then act like it never happened. Maybe I'll expand that - you know, I'll lengthen the time because it should be over with. But Comey has disputed that claim, and has said that he could be a witness against McCabe if the investigation resulted in criminal charges and a trial.

"He fired Comey because Comey would not, among other things, say that he wasn't a target of the investigation", Giuliani said earlier this month on Fox News "Hannity." Hillary Clinton got that.

The report shows the investigation in total cost almost $10 million between October and March.

'We said at that time that we were confident that, unless there is inappropriate pressure from high levels of the Administration, the U.S. Attorney's Office would conclude that it should decline to prosecute.
