Everything you need to know about Battlefield V

Last week, Call of Duty laid its cards on the table, drastically changing the CoD formula to shoe-in a battle royale mode.

EA is big on live services, and in its most recent financial call, CEO Andrew Wilson said Battlefield 5 will feature "additional innovations on the future of multiplayer in first-person shooters", and such innovation will be available from "launch and over time as part of a live service".

Battlefield V, however, has not done away with its single player mode - War Stories returns and will see players take on the "untold stories of World War 2", including settings such as Arctic Norway and the deserts of North Africa.

DICE have finally unveiled the first gameplay for Battlefield V (5) with more and more detail coming in the coming days.

The big new mode for multiplayer in Battlefield V is Grand Operations, which builds upon the popular Operations mode first introduced in Battlefield 1, which similarly combines several modes and maps over one big match. While standard Battlefield modes you've come to expect are returning, including the 64-player Conquest, Team Deathmatch and Domination, to fill out the multiplayer roster of modes. With a mode that so clearly leads the current gaming zeitgeist, it comes as a surprise that the reveal stream for Battlefield V didn't even mention battle royale.

Overall, the Battle Packs offered no in-game advantages (unless you count XP boosts), but DICE appears to be removing all element of chance from Battlefield 5's cosmetic reward system. As you fight in epic, unexpected locations across the globe, enjoy the richest and most immersive Battlefield yet. Dice also stated that the game is not pay-to-win. As reports suggested, it is indeed taking us back to World War II.

"Battlefield 1 gave players the definitive World War 1 experience that brought the dawn of all-out war to life". Those who pre-order will also get early access to the Battlefield V Open Beta, an extra Special Soldier Set, and access to five weapons as soon as they begin playing.
