Gareth Southgate has named the England squad he is taking to Russian Federation for the World Cup this summer.

Southgate has never been afraid to give youth its chance, and the standout inclusion here is Liverpool's 19-year-old right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Burnley).

"Congratulations to everyone selected for the England World Cup squad today", wrote Lallana.

"Ryan and Joe have played a lot over the last two years so they're not decisions we took lightly", Southgate said.

Southgate, who has named England's third youngest squad for a World Cup (26 years 18 days), told thefa.com: "I believe this is a squad which we can be excited about".

Not that it was ever in doubt, but Manchester City full-back Walker missed the news of his call-up when the England manager first tried to reach him. We have got some great young players.

Gary Cahill received a surprise reprieve having been excluded from March's squad - the only member of the group to have reached a half-century of caps. Abraham was demoted to the England U-21 team, for the Three Lions last friendlies against Netherlands and Italy and his dip in form cause him his World Cup place.

The players flying to Russian Federation were unveiled in a video lasting one minute and 44 seconds with youngsters announcing each squad member's name.

Wilshere fought his way back into the Arsenal first team this season after recovering from a leg fracture he sustained during his loan spell at Bournemouth in the 2016-17 campaign.

Henderson, meanwhile, has developed into a top-class captain at Liverpool as they have reached the Champions League final.

Up front, Southgate possesses a world-class striker in In Harry Kane, while Jamie Vardy once again proved his credentials for Leicester with 20 league goals this season.

England play friendlies against Nigeria and Costa Rica on June 2 and June 7 before leaving for Russian Federation five days later. "They're both good guys and have contributed a lot throughout qualification, so it wasn't an enjoyable part of the job and I feel it's important to acknowledge their contribution in getting us to Russian Federation".
