Clayne Crawford Responds to 'Lethal Weapon' Firing with Glum Photo

Seann William Scott (from the "American Pie" franchise) has joined the show in his first network series role as a new character who folds into a partnership with Murtaugh (Wayans).

"Seann is a fantastic addition to this already unbelievable cast", Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in a statement. 'Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can't wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen.

Crawford's contract to play Martin Riggs was not renewed two weeks after two on-set incidents for which he was reprimanded were brought to light. Zero communication with Fox or Warner Bros. TV started exploring a recasting - a rare and dramatic move when involving a lead of an established series, especially when an iconic character like Riggs is involved.

Seann William Scott was ultimately selected after approaching other actors for the role. Scott emerged as a choice earlier this week, with negotiations wrapping over the spa of a few days. Matthew Miller is the creator and showrunner, with Warner Bros.

"I have learned that Crawford has had a history of bad behavior on the show, and that he has been disciplined several times over complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment", Deadline reporter Nellie Andreeva wrote. Based on the film series starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, Lethal Weapon is averaging more than 8 million viewers on multi-platform viewing.

"Furthermore, I apologize to all the crew and cast for any negative attention 'Lethal Weapon" is receiving because of these incidents'. With Scott replacing Crawford, the show won't have to figure out whether Lethal Weapon could continue without a Riggs, and will give it a go with Scott being a maniac with a badge. It also over-indexes in African-American homes (165 index) and ranks among the season's top 15 broadcast dramas among African-American adults 18-49. It seems FOX has made a decision to do the latter, and Seann William Scott has landed his first-ever network series role. Recently seen in Super Troopers 2, he is repped by ICM Partners.
