Tension prevailed at Alipiri in Tirupati on Friday morning, when TDP leaders and activists staged a protest demanding "Amit Shah Go Back" and tried to obstruct the convoy of BJP national president. Though the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has condemned the act by his party's members it has failed to pacify the BJP leaders. A TDP worker threw stones at Shah's convoy and broke the windshield of one of the vehicles. A few local leaders of the BJP got off the cars and thrashed the protestors.

The TDP had organised a grand public meeting in Tirupati to protest against the Centre's over special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The political hostility has turned into animosity between both party leaders after the TDP walked out of the NDA and also withdrew its MPs from Modi government.

"No stone hit Shah's vehicle". "It is against our party discipline".

Tirupati Urban Superintendent of Police Abhishek Mohanty told PTI that they were investigating the incident. While condemning the attack on the BJP chief, he warned the TDP cadres of indulging in such violent protests.

The BJP president had arrived in Tirupati last night after wrapping up his over a month-long election campaign in Karnataka.

The alleged stone-throwing incident happened when Shah was returning from Tirumala.

The TDP had cut ties with the BJP, alleging neglect of the southern state and failure of the Centre to grant special category state status to Andhra Pradesh. With the good governance and pro-poor schemes, BJP came to power in 21 states. The winning stretch would continue in South India also including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, he said.
