US World News & Report recognizes several local high schools

The APĀ® participation rate at Ridgefield High School is 70 percent.

Haas Hall's Fayetteville campus led the state's high schools for the seventh straight year and climbed 10 spots to 50th in the nation, according to the rankings released today.

U.S. News factored into its assessment of reading and math proficiency the percentage of "economically disadvantaged students - who tend to score lower - enrolled at the schools to identify schools performing much better than statistical expectations".

Loveless Academy Magnet Program in Montgomery (LAMP) was named the top high school in Alabama.


Silver was the highest award in Iowa, which received 14 representing 4.2 percent of its public schools.

The U.S. News rankings compared 20,548 high schools across the nation.

Robyn Ellis, director of Maeser, said the school is not focused on test scores.


Stevenson High School in the north suburban of Lincolnshire came in at No. 7, while west suburban Proviso Math and Science Academy came in at No. 8.

The next-closest high ranker from the Tucson area was Catalina Foothills High School, which clocked in at 670th-best school in the country, up from 798th past year.

Barstow High School and Academy of Careers and Exploration in Helendale each earned a bronze level, despite not being ranked.

Davis is Utah's second-largest school district, with more than 72,000 students.


The rankings are based on a four-step methodology, Morse said. They get extra help with tough topics during an advisory period, he said, and the school places a premium on parent involvement. "I congratulate the students, teachers and staff of these schools for blazing a path of excellence". The school, which graduated 100-percent of its students in the Class of 2016, collaborates with Contra Costa College to increase its students' exposure to college courses.
