The teams will play Major League Baseball's first games in England on June 29 and 30, 2019, at the stadium that was created to host the 2012 Olympics.

Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that the Yankees and Red Sox will play two regular-season games at the London Stadium, which played host to the athletics and opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics, on June 29 and 30, 2019.

Major League Baseball matches have been played outside the United States before, in Mexico, Japan, Puerto Rico and Australia.

"We hope this series will be the beginning of a relationship with London that will persist", said Manfred, explaining that an agreement was in place for baseball to also return to London for two matches in 2020 with teams yet to be announced. And Mayor Khan was equally confident that the matches would not rain on the World Cup parade.

"With the success of National Football League and NBA here, London is now the major hub for American sport outside the U.S.".

Britain will follow other worldwide venues that have hosted regular-season Major League games, joining Mexico, Japan, Puerto Rico and Australia.

The games will take place on June 29 and 30 at the venue which hosted the Olympic Games in 2012. "This is our most significant endeavor ever in Europe and we look forward to showcasing Major League Baseball in one of the world's great cities". This series will surely be the most significant global event to date for Major League ball.

"All the hard work has paid off", said Khan, describing it as an "historic" partnership.
