Browns Have Baker Mayfield Doing Extra Work Under Center

Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield intends to lead by example.

Football fans all over the world were stunned last Thursday when the Browns named Oklahoma quarterback and 2017 Heisman Trophy victor Baker Mayfield as their number-one pick.

Assistant GM Eliot Wolf preached that same kind of effect that Mayfield has on his teammates, noting a game against Texas last season as a prime example. In 2001, one of the weakest quarterback classes of the past 20 years, Brees still couldn't crack the first round, even after Mike Vick went No. 1 overall to the Falcons.

Ward should start, based off his draft position. "The guy you're comparing him to [Taylor] has played a lot of games, and won games in the National Football League".

"We studied everything", Dorsey said. "He's a part of the NFL Legends community".

"I'm being very honest", Jackson was quoted as saying by CBS. I'm still going to compete and try and win that job. You haven't made it yet.

"It's a mentality that you are not going to take "no" for an answer". Him and the center, that's something as I said before that he's just got to get used to.

The rookies were forced to practice in the fieldhouse on May 4 because of rain and the threat of thunderstorms. Some errant throws bounced off the turf.

Head coach Hue Jackson alluded to Mayfield's unique personality, in particular his innate leadership skills. There's some things we've got to clean up. "We can't have the ball on the ground as much". To accelerate the process, the rookie stayed in the fieldhouse with rookie second-round pick Austin Corbett after most players left practice and fumbled another snap.

"I remember Russell, he was one of the best interviews I've ever been around", the third scout said. "We'll work at this. So I don't think that's going to be a problem". However, Taylor is still with the Browns, and he has proven to be a capable starter in the NFL.

That's not to say Mayfield didn't look sharp.

"It's not about individuals".

"He's a grinder. He comes in early and he's the last one to leave".

"The one thing I really love is when you talk to the Oklahoma staff". But he's confident any battle will not divide Cleveland's locker room. More teams are taking to the fact that it's possible and those guys are winners, so why not? We'll just have to patiently wait until the fall to see. Mayfield was 33-3 as a starter at Oklahoma.
