This news changed my day in a bad way.

Among those sending their best wishes was Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola before he received the Premier League trophy that Ferguson won 13 times. He looked in flawless shape.

"He told me he is doing a lot of exercise, and he looked very happy but that kind of accident can happen".

Online posts from United provided no update on the condition of the 76-year-old Ferguson, who the club said Saturday required "a period of intensive care to optimize his recovery". He's a strong man and an optimistic man. "But nobody knows exactly what it is".

Manchester City coach Brian Kidd, who served as Ferguson's number two at United between 1991 and 1998, said his former boss was in his thoughts.

"He's such an iconic person as everybody knows". There was a really sombre mood yesterday evening and this morning.

'To achieve that, we are going to work hard while we eagerly await good news about Sir Alex's recovery'.

Sunday saw runaway winners Manchester City, United's local rivals, receive the Premier League trophy as Guardiola added an English title to the Spanish and German ones he won in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively. They see in him a father figure, strict but with their best interests at heart. We send all our love to him. "I will see him again".

Messages from the football world poured in for the legendary manager and United said the operation had gone "very well" but stressed that Sir Alex was in the early hours of rehabilitation.

Phil Jones believes Manchester United legend Alex Ferguson has the fight to recover from a brain haemorrhage. We wish him well and to recover very quickly. He is the one who brought me to the club and gave me that opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world. "He is absolutely the boss", said Liverpool boss Klopp. I had a few words with him. It can happen to all of us. But it can happen to all of us obviously so obviously he was last night and will be in my prayers 100 percent and I wish him and his family all of the best. "I'm sure he will be fine".
