Tiger will use new irons at Wells Fargo C'ship

Generating birdies is the key driver to fantasy scoring and Luke List rates inside the top 20 on tour in both birdie or better percentage and par-5 scoring, which set up favorably for the Wells Fargo Championship. He played nine holes with the trio and Love, who arranged the practice round, praised Woods's short game ahead of the tournament start Thursday. That is his longest such gap since January.

The Wells Fargo Championship is back at its familiar home of Quail Hollow after a one-year hiatus as the venue hosted the US PGA Championship.

The tournament always attracts a top field and the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day are all involved this weekend.

"You saw it, I didn't hit my irons very good [at Augusta]", Woods said on Wednesday in Charlotte when asked about the Masters. He also finished second at the Valspar Championship and seventh at the Arnold Palmer Invitational so it's not like he's a flash in the pan.

Woods last played at Quail Hollow Club in 2012 - and missed the cut.

Murray gave us a decent run when a fast-finishing 14th at the Houston Open - which Steve Rawlings notes a useful correlation with Quail Hollow in his tournament preview. Molinari is a beast off the tee, gaining almost an entire stroke per round there (6th). "If I did hit a green, I hit it above the hole, I hit it in the wrong spot". And yet it has cost him scoring opportunities. The par-5 5th was simply changed to a par-4, making the course play as a Par 71 instead of its former Par 72.

Throw in Woods' substandard iron play at the Masters, and there is plenty of room for improvement.

Just don't get the idea that he is satisfied with his year. "And I just didn't do a good enough job this week in that regard". It's a meticulous process and this is the first phase of that process with TaylorMade. This was the second major Phil had his brother, Tim, as his caddy after missing the cut at the Open Championship a few weeks before. That 2007 victory seems a long time ago.

While away from it, though, he reflected and analyzed what didn't go right at the Masters after he'd played so well in the lead-up. The scores have varied.

McIlroy is the obvious sports betting favorite to win this tournament based on his history at the event.

Justin Thomas ($11,300): When you look at the three players that cost 11K+, all three of them (Thomas, Rory McIlroy, and Rickie Fowler) have won at Quail Hollow.

Quail Hollow is a more demanding test than TPC Louisiana but that will only be a positive as Day is a player whose best results tend to come on the most hard courses.

But now it gets a bit tougher to make big moves.

Elsewhere, Kevin Kisner (40/1) has two top-10 finishes in his last two appearances at the course, while in-form Ryan Moore catches the eye out at 50/1.

Luke List ($7,400): He has been on of the best players on Tour this season, now ranking 11th in FedEx cup points.

Woods has typically gone up against the best.

This week is no exception.

Quail Hollow is back in the regular PGA TOUR rotation for the first time since 2016. Next week, the Players boasts the best field of the year outside of the majors.
