Electric BMW iX3 to be Imported From China

Well, yes it has but BMW makes the point that the i3 is specifically an i-badged model, so part of the quasi-experimental i-range, whereas the iX3, in spite of having i in its name, is part of the "core" BMW brand line-up, so is kinda technically BMW's first electric vehicle.

The BMW iX3 will go on sale in 2020 and will rival the likes of Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-Tron Quattro and Mercedes-Benz EQ C.

BMW says that future vehicles will be developed with electric power in mind from the outset, and that its architecture will cater for front, rear and all-wheel-drive layouts.

The BMW Concept iX3 - presented for the first time at the Auto China 2018 show in Beijing - offers a look ahead to the expansion of the model line-up in this area. These styling cues provide a striking contrast against the Moonstone Silver matt exterior paint finish. Perhaps the most attention-grabbing element is the reinterpreted kidney grille - the grille comes with joined elements, while it appears to be permanently closed, as dictated by aerodynamics.

Aesthetically, the iX3 is immediately recognisable as a BMW X model. There's also lots of blue highlighting to reinforce the car's electric credentials, while it also gets "aerodynamically optimised" alloy wheels. The grille, side skirts, and diffuser lend the main accents to the body of the vehicle.

The name says a lot about BMW's newest design study. As for the electric motor, it does not require any rare earths.

All by 2025, the company BMW plans to release 25 serial of electrified models.

BMW also promises an impressive driving range on a single charge. Although if they do that then they may need a bigger battery to deliver the quoted range of 249 miles, but as the iX3 can handle 150kW Rapid Charging there shouldn't be too much range anxiety from owners. BMW predicts a 150-kilowatt quick charger can top up the battery pack in 30 minutes.

The BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture will produce the future series-production version of the BMW Concept iX3 in Shenyang, China. But the concept is wearing an all-new kidney grille akin to the one seen on the i Vision Dynamics Concept from previous year.
