Hurts struggles in Alabama Spring Game

But on a day where Hurts completed only 19 of 37 passes for 195 yards and an interception for the White Team, the question needed to be asked. Muddying the waters, however, is the fact Tagovailoa was absent from the spring game - and a good portion of the spring - with a hand injury.

Former Kapolei quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, has committed to play for the Crimson Tide, the Bleacher Report reported today. QB - While much of the talk this spring has been on the two competing for the starting job, Alabama does have a third scholarship quarterback - Jones - who has just been quietly going about his business of improving.

"Well, we had the first offense playing against the first defense, so I thought the second offense was a little better against the second defense", Saban told reporters after the game, via The Tuscaloosa News' Cecil Hurt. The national championship game hero was not backing up Hurts.

It's worth a quick reminder that these are paying fans as well, and the weather isn't fantastic, although it is far better than a number of spring games have seen this season. If Hurts doesn't get assurances that he'll be the starter, we still wouldn't be surprised if he transferred to another program for the 2018 season. Would the loser of the quarterback competition transfer?

Moving forward, Saban said he thinks Hurts will benefit from the personal attention he'll be able to receive from Enos. But since this might not be decided until September, it's impossible to predict what might happen.

The Crimson side got on the scoreboard first with a seven play, 63-yard drive, capped off by sophomore Brian Robinson Jr. reaching the end zone from one yard out. He also finished with a game-high in receptions, catching six passes for 59 yards.

He was 5-for-7, hitting kicks from 33, 49, 35 and 48 yards. He was named co-MVP along with Jones. His team lost 24-12 on a nice spring afternoon that won't be remembered for offense. I think we had good teamwork on field goals.
