In a first, Modi to launch fast against 'wasted' Parliament-session

He said the observance of fast by Modi and BJP MPs was an attempt to divert attention of the nation from burning issues such as agrarian distress, rising unemployment and bungling in the implementation of GST.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today praised Parameswaran Iyer, the secretary in the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, for his contribution to the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan".

"This is a farce of a fast by the Modi government".

Modi and BJP's move is a protest over disruptions during the budget sessions in the Parliament by the opposition parties, especially Congress.


"From the streets to Parliament, roadblocks are being created in the government's work. But this change is causing trouble to those who are not able to accept this change", he said.

The development word undertaken in Bihar under Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi's leadership has boosted the morale of the people, the PM said.

Modi alleged that improvement in the condition of poor people anxious the Opposition parties. They feel if the poor are strengthened, then they (opposition) will not be able to speak lies. He lauded Nitish Kumar "for his patience and good governance and the way he is fighting anti-social elements".

Surjewala also wanted the Prime Minister to observe fast as an apology to the countrymen for the 13 banking scams involving diamond merchants Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.


Taking to his Twitter handle, former Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav said that it was a "big goof-up" by the Prime Minister.

And the number of 6.6 lakh spans three categories -- upgradation of some old toilets, completion of projects that were under way and toilets that were initiated and construction of new toilets.

The opposition DMK has asked people in the state to wear black shirts and sarees during Modi's visit to formally inaugurate the 10th edition of DefExpo.
