Philadelphia 76ers: 5 keys for the home stretch of the regular season

The coach mentioned how Wednesday's contest was an elimination game for the Detroit Pistons.

It was evident for quite some time that the team wasn't going to land a playoff spot.

Not only did the Sixers (48-30) beat the Pistons (37-41), they dominated for the first three quarters. Philadelphia also collected 11 steals and forced 17 Detroit turnovers, scoring 26 points off them.

The Philadelphia 76ers have won 10 games in a row. Not only has Philly won 12 straight but it has held leads of at least 20 points in eight of them. The Pistons' point guard shot 1-11 from the field and had to settle for a lot of awful looks.

During Simmons' one-and-done season at LSU in 2015-16, he shot 56 percent from the floor but a terrible 31 percent on jump shots, ranking him 5,054th out of 6,873 college players taking at least as many jump shot attempts that season per Synergy Sports.

Simmons had a quiet second game against the Pistons this season, but in Philadelphia's other two games against them he has proven tough to stop.

The Pistons trailed, 88-71, heading to the fourth quarter and Luke Kennard (12 points) scored on a scoop and Henry Ellenson followed with a dunk to make it 88-75 at the 10:22 mark.

Joe Ingles had 13 points and seven assists and fellow Australian Dante Exum six points in Utah's 117-110 win over the LA Lakers. Joe Harris replaced him in the starting lineup and had 13 points ... Andre Drummond added 13 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.

Coming off of Villanova's NCAA Tournament win (and a little over two months after the Eagles' Super Bowl victory), the Philadelphia 76ers looked to continue the winning with a victory against Brooklyn. An alley-oop to Holmes put the 76ers up 36-28 after one. The Pistons pulled within five points (112-107) on Reggie Bullock's 3-pointer with 21.4 seconds left.

The Sixers, meanwhile, have been 4-8 without their No. 1 option, Joel Embiid.

Embiid, an all-star center, missed his fourth consecutive game after fracturing the orbital bone near his left eye and suffering a concussion last Wednesday against the New York Knicks.

The 76ers power forward has been sidelined since Sunday with cellulitis, a bacterial infection, in his right elbow.

The Philadelphia 76ers have elevated from merely sniffing the playoffs, to being potential contenders to garner the third seed by the end of this weekend with a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
