If no one picked the winning numbers, the new jackpot will be more than $600 million.

Mega Millions says one winning ticket was sold in Friday night's drawing.

The amount is the fourth largest jackpot in Mega Millions' history, with the record set in 2012 at 656 million dollars. Mega Millions hasn't identified where in New Jersey the winning ticket was sold.

"Hearty congratulations to New Jersey for their big Mega Millions win", said Gordon Medenica, the head of Mega Millions and the Maryland state lottery. The odds of picking the correct numbers on five white balls and one yellow ball in the Mega Millions game are one in 259 million.

What were the Mega Millions winning numbers?

The lone winning lottery ticket was sold in New Jersey, though no one has claimed it yet.

Only one ticket with the right numbers was purchased, Mega Millions said.

'The last couple of days we sold a lot of tickets, so I don't know if it's a guy, a woman, or who it is, ' he said.

The jackpot will now be reset to its starting value of $40 million (£28.5 million) for the next draw on Tuesday.

Lucky ticket winners are advised to sign the back of their ticket immediately. The victor was able to file a lawsuit and stay anonymous while claiming the winnings through an anonymous trust even though they had originally signed their winning ticket with their name.
