Announced at Mobile World Congress 2018 in February, Nokia is the company's first smartphone to run on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition).

Priced at a convenient Rs. 5,499, the new Nokia 1 features apps compatible with Android Oreo Go edition. It is fueled by a 2,150mAh battery.

HMD Global led Nokia has launched the Nokia 1 Android Oreo (Go Edition) in India, making it the second Android Go device to be launched in India after the Lava Z50. I would say its biggest competitor is from Nokia themselves; the Nokia 8 is now available for the same price of just £349.

As for specifications, the Nokia 1 packs a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480×854 pixels) IPS display.

HMD Global which announced a deep partnership with Google, now has all its phones running a stock Android One experience. This is where Android Go comes into its own as it is tailored for phones which have less than 1GB RAM and are low on memory. The device has modest specifications which include 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, and a quad-core 1.1GHz MediaTek processor. HMD here unveiled four smartphones, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, new Nokia 6 and Nokia 1, in the price range of €85 to €749. The device has now been launched in India for a price of ₹5499 ($85) and will be available starting tomorrow.

The Android Go phone from Nokia comes with few Go apps preinstalled, like Google Go (Google web search app) Maps Go, Files Go, GBoard Go, Youtube Go and even Google Assistant Go, which is basically trimmed down versions of the full-fledged Google apps that are meant to run on low-end hardware. Lastly, Nokia 1 users will get 20% off on booking their first ride via redBus. Since the phone is made out of plastic, the phone's back can be personalized with the so-called Xpress On covers that will be sold separately at a price of Rs. 450/-, starting from April 2018.

Users will also get free 12-month Accidental Damage Insurance from Servify if customers open a Kotak 811 savings account and add Rs. 1,000 in it during the offer period. The internal storage can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

The connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, Global Positioning System and other essential sensors.

It bears an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and a proximity sensor.
