Bird's-eye view of the Newton St. Patrick's Day parade

It was a procession of emerald green as Celtic dancers, dignitaires and even some four-legged mammals - dogs, sheep and horses, dyed green, of course - paraded down Spring Street and revelers clapped and waved in delight during Saturday's 15th annual Sussex County St. Patrick's Day parade. "We were thinking about what group we could become so we could march in it next year". Well, I wish you the blessing of Saint Patrick.

The Saint Patrick's Day parade celebrates the life of the patron saint of Ireland and folks from all backgrounds donned green and joined in the festivities on Saturday. "I got three boys and my wife and i and [we're] Enjoying the weather today too", said parade attendee Ross Grimes. For others though, this year marked the first time they were watching the small canal town's parade.

Pittsburgh's St. Patrick's Day parade is considered the second-largest in the country. Upon his death, President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins said Rooney was "deeply committed to Ireland and the Irish people" and "always conscious of his Irish roots".

The parade was a familiar occasion for Matthew McCrosson, 68, who has frequently marched in it during the past half-century.

Typically, the St. Patrick's Day Parade route is about 3 miles.

Some children could be seen inching closer and closer on to Sheridan Avenue, the main route of the parade, where they sat on the asphalt in hopes of getting the best view of the parade.
