The first American Idol season received a positive response and now the expectations on Idol 2.0 are set high. It will be interesting to see if American Idol can regain the stature it once had in its early years.

The AP notes that Nielsen said the turnout for the "Idol" premiere "represented ABC's biggest Sunday night audience with regular series programming since 2012". She was dead on with her original song, "Yard Sale", which impressed all the panel, particularly Katy, with its distinctive attention to detail.

Even though the original series had made a good run on FOX since it debuted in 2003, and gave the spotlight to celebrities like Tori Kelly, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, and Jordin Sparks, Perry said that lots of awesome singers out there could still use a platform such as American Idol. She has such a mature and developed voice.

The show saves the best for last: 26-year-old Philly native Dennis Lorenzo. Ron Bultongez, 21, from Plano Texas - Oh my, his baby is precious - Lisa, wait, you're watching to see if he can sing. We'll be back tomorrow night with more auditions. He has a bit of a crooner's voice, but it's not good. Luke, you need to remember that his story doesn't make him a good singer either. "Come here, Benjamin. Come here right now!" she said.

The 19-year-old cashier told judges Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan that he had yet to experience his first kiss.

In a freakish move, Richie made a decision to bring Bultongez back. The judges were delighted to send him through. She obviously gets three yeses and her pass to Hollywood.

Koby is 26 years old from Denver, Colorado, and is a theater performer. "I was amazed how she didn't seem to be fazed by the fact that I was in a wheelchair". When Harper was 11, she became an Internet laughingstock for singing what was considered the "worst national anthem ever".

"Something that I never imagined could've happened to me", says Julica. The woman embarrasses herself all the way out the door. Catie Turner from Pennsylvania sings the judges an original song called "21st Century Machine", and wins them over with her unique perspective and strong sense of self. She's off to Hollywood. But that didn't stop 7-year-old Dyxie Spring. He's got star power and I think we'll be seeing a lot of him this season. I thought I was going to be the authority... but, no, no, I am the Kindergarten teacher. I like Lionel as a judge so far. Artists gave short performances in front of the three judges, and if two of the three voted in their favor, they got a golden ticket to the show's Hollywood Week, where the competition really heats up. Adorably, Katie gives Benjamin a kiss, knocking him off his feet.
