Pennsylvania reports drop in flu cases, 28 deaths

Doctors don't fully understand what about the flu might lead to heart attacks in some people.

Another six hospitals had workplace flu vaccinations among employees below 75 percent.

Health experts around the country have reported overwhelming numbers of patients coming into emergency rooms with flu-like symptoms, including cough, fever, aches and chills, breathing issues and more. That according to John Ricci, a spokesman for the county's Department of Public Health.

SANTA FE -The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) reports that although flu activity remains widespread across the state, it appears activity overall in New Mexico has peaked and will likely continue to gradually decrease for the remainder of the season which is expected to be several more weeks.

As of February 9, 10 people died from the flu at UT Medical Center in the 2017-18 flu season. They say it doesn't just protect an individual, it protects the larger community because it helps prevent the flu from spreading.

"It's been nearly a pandemic", said Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease expert for Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and a Pittsburgh physician. This year the influenza A and influenza B activity peaks were relatively close together leading to the surge in activity that we have seen over the last couple of weeks.

The viability of the flu vaccine changes each year, as per the CDC.

Since Oct. 1, 2017, 19,398 laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated hospitalizations have been reported through the Influenza Hospitalization Network to the Centers for Disease Control.
